RQA, Inc. announced last month that in response to industry need and popular demand, we would offer FSMA related courses online. Offerings began with the Preventive Controls for Human Food virtual course and will now expand offering Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) courses. RQA will continue to offer these FDA-recognized Food Safety and Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) curriculum at client locations with the added option to choose delivery through an online format. Benefits of an online course include reduced travel and expense costs and more flexible locations for participation.
The FSVP live, virtual interactive course is a 12-hour course providing participants with knowledge to implement requirements of the “Foreign Supplier Verification Programs for Importers of Food for Humans and Animals” regulation of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This regulation is one of several provisions of the 2011 Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). The final rule given in the FSMA FSVP Rule (21 CFR 1, 11 & 111) requires that importers perform certain risk-based activities to verify that food imported into the United States has been produced in a manner that meets applicable U.S. safety standards. A manufacturer/processor subject to the Preventive Controls requirement that uses imported raw materials or other ingredients may also be an importer covered by the FSVP rule. This course is designed for U.S.‐based importers who meet the definition of “importer” in the FSVP rule, which includes those who own or are the consignee of food at the time of entry, or, if no owner or consignee exists, the U.S. agent or representative of the foreign owner. Others who have an interest in ensuring that the requirements of the FSVP rule are met include brokers, exporters, foreign suppliers of food that will be exported to the U.S., persons/business owners who currently buy food from foreign sources, and representatives of foreign governments.
