MoCRA Deadlines Approaching–Prepare Now with RQA’s Expert Support

The Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act of 2022 (MoCRA) is a new law that has expanded FDA’s authority to regulate cosmetics to ensure the safety of cosmetic products many consumers use daily. MoCRA has various deadlines to prepare for through December 2025, with several critical dates approaching:

  • June 29, 2024 – FDA must issue proposed rule for public comment regarding what substances it determines to be fragrance allergens.
  • July 1, 2024 – Organizations must register their product facilities and submit listings of their cosmetic products to the FDA. The original enforcement date was December 29, 2023, however, the FDA provided six additional months after the statutory deadline to ensure industry had sufficient time to comply.
  • December 20, 2024 – Companies must include contact information on their cosmetic product labels so they can receive information from consumers regarding adverse events reporting.
  • December 20, 2024 – FDA must publish a proposed rule for good manufacturing practices for cosmetic facilities.
